Raphael von Blumenthal
Raphael is a third-culture Anglo-German-Romanian writer-director and actor, based between Geneva and London. Beginning his film journey in development at the Oscar-nominated Wildgaze Films, his early short films and comedy skits as a writer with long-term collaborator Sam Baron were played at BIFA and BAFTA-qualifying film festivals, and broadcast on Vimeo Staff Picks, Short of the Week and Channel 4.
His breakout as an actor was a supporting role alongside Omar Sy, and he has since appeared in an Oscar winning short, across theaters in London and the South of England, numerous indie features, and voiced internationally acclaimed and award-winning video games.
His debut as a writer director was 2024’s An Invitation, a short film exploring our changing understanding of consent, for which he was Best Actor Longlisted for the British Short Film Awards. He is interested in works that challenge mainstream narratives around masculinity and its intersection with national, cultural and political identity, and is due to direct his second short film later in 2025.
