The House of the Mother
Rosita (72), an elderly woman with a deep fear of the dark is forced to face her phobia when an injured child shows up seeking refuge after being attacked because of his uncle's sexuality.
Dominican Republic, the hood. Rosita (72), an elderly woman with silver hair, lives alone with her cat. She suffers from nyctophobia, an intense fear of the dark that has kept her isolated from the rest of the community. During one of the frequent blackouts, Vitico (8) is playing hide-and-seek with his friends. They run and leap across the rooftops like cats in the night. In the middle of the game, the kids catch Vitico’s uncle, Jorge (35), kissing and dancing with another man. Jorge is arrested by the police for refusing to stop dancing with a man in a public space and is taken to the station. The incident sparks a fight between Vitico and his friends in Rosita’s backyard. Suddenly hurt and left alone, Vitico has no choice but to spend the night at Rosita’s house.
