GILLIAN has always believed she would know the identity of her eventual husband based on dreams she has of their future children. But when she meets and falls in love with a woman — a young drifter, LANA— her understanding of her future must shift. After a brief courtship, Lana shares that she was abandoned by her father as a young child, and Gillian, in search of a reason to leave her suffocating circumstances, offers to drive Lana across the country to confront him. But once the two women arrive, Lana is unable to go through with the confrontation, leaving Gillian stranded and heartbroken. With no where to go, Gillian finds herself back on Lana’s family doorstep, where her father mistakes her as his long lost daughter. She doesn’t correct him, effectively taking on the identity of the woman she loves.
