Belgian born director and scriptwriter Ann-Julie Vervaeke (’87) obtained a Master in Audiovisual arts (Film) at KASK after graduating from the University of Ghent in History of Art. In her thesis she discussed the filmic elements that are necessary to establish a transfer of experience from film towards spectator. For this study she analysed the films of Carlos Reygadas and Fien Troch.
The “unspoken” is the connecting thread throughout her work. In 2014, Vervaeke won the prize for best debut at the Int. Short Film Festival (Leuven) with her film ‘Le Pli dans l’Espace’.
