Wanda Rutkiewicz (49) is the world’s most famous female Himalaya climber who pushed the borders of what people believe that women are capable of. A pretty woman known for her feminist views is a controversial figure in the dominantly male climbing society in Poland. She climbs her 8th 8000 meter peak but friends accuse her of cheating. Instead of breaking down she wins a court battle proving her right and prepares to conquer the 3rd highest peak of the world. Many call her plan „suicidal“. Wanda rejects warnings from her doctor and a goodbye-blessing from her mother and sets off to Kanchenjunga- a mountain hiding the Valley of Immortality according to a Buddhist myth. (excerpt)
