Casus
A senior law student is faced with her own violent past when she interns as a social worker for households with domestic violence.
Casus follows the lives of the social workers at the Family Justice Center, a help center for people with intrafamilial violence. With one case per season, the series explores how the lives of the case directors affect their approach on the case, and how the case in turn affects the lives of the case directors. At the core of the story is the coming of age of Manu Baetens, who interns at the FJC to graduate law school. Initially, Manu’s view on the world is very black and white. People are in danger. Get them out, case solved. But it is not that simple, and soon, Manu is confronted with the true complexity of family dynamics; the grey areas in which a social worker must act. Although Manu excels in her personal approach to clients, that closeness equally ensures that Manu cannot continue to ignore her own blind spots. She herself is in a co-dependent, toxic relationship with her narcissistic mother and is having an affair with her professor who turns out to be an intimate aggressor.
