Judith Zdesar is a filmmaker and script consultant based in Vienna. She holds a Master's Degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Vienna and has studied Scriptwriting and Film Directing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Michael Haneke.
Judith has been creating creative documentaries since her studies, focusing on the boundaries of perception and translating non-visual experiences into film. Her films have been screened at many international festivals (Nyon, IDFA, Vision du Réel, Premier Plans, etc.) and have won several awards. Notable works include "The Last Image," which won Special Mention for Best Eastern European Documentary Film at the Jihlava IFF 2020, and "Alarm," currently in post-production with a planned theatrical release in spring 2025.
Judith has lectured at the University of Arts in Linz and at the Scriptwriting Department at the University of Performing Arts Vienna. She is the head script consultant for DOR Film Production, where she is also involved in developing different serial formats and part of their writer's rooms.
She has served as assistant director to Nikolaus Geyrhalter, worked as a film educator and jury member at various film festivals. Judith is a member of the Film Evaluation Jury in Austria and the Advisory Board for Film Art at the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture, Department of Film.
