Filthy (orig. title Spina) is the story about Lena who at the age of 17 gets raped by her teacher. The grim event tears her out of her average teenage life and into a downward spiral of self-harm, taboo and isolation. Director Tereza Nvotova is very clear about her intentions with the film, "I think it's time to break the silence about rape and allow victims to become survivors".
The feature film project was developed at MIDPOINT's 2014 Feature Launch program in which both writer Barbora Namerova, director/writer Tereza Nvotova and Slovak producer Peter Badac took part, and they were tutored by Columbia University professor Brendan Ward among others.
This is Tereza Nvotova's graduation film from FAMU. It is produced by Peter Badac, Bfilm, and Milos Lochman, Moloko film, with the support of Slovak Audiovisual Fund, Czech Cinematography Fund and HBO Europe.
Filthy celebrates its world premiere in the festival's Bright Future section on Friday January 27th where the team will be present, followed by screenings throughout the festival. Find out more here.
IFFR runs through Jan 25 - Feb 5, 2017 and will also present a major retrospective on the Czech master Jan Nemec.
