Thinking David

Original title: Mít rád Davida
Country: Czech Republic

David, in his late twenties, revisits a transformative chapter of his life at a wedding in France, rekindling a friendship broken by his coming out and leaving the Jewish community.

David, now in his late twenties, arrives in the French countryside for the wedding of an old friend he and his former best friend Klára met years ago during a transformative trip to Israel. It's the first time David and Klára have seen each other in nearly a decade, a period of the COVID pandemic, the war in Ukraine and so on. The picturesque setting contrasts with the unresolved tension between David and Klára, whose once-close bond was shattered by David's coming out and decision to leave the Jewish community.

During the weekend, old tensions resurface, especially as David and Klára clash over the current Palestine-Israel conflict. The wedding becomes not just a celebration of love but also an opportunity for David to bridge the divides with Klára, finding peace with himself and those he loves, even amidst their differences.
