The Wake

STANO (19) lives with his mother (60) in a rural area of Slovakia where it’s quiet and peaceful, and everybody knows everybody. This only child of the widow is obedient to his mother who is obsessed about her son’s safety after the tragic death of her husband. Stano has never left the town. He works as a grave digger around the only church of the village which was the wish of his religious mother who believes that nothing bad can happen to him since it is the “holy place” that represents this innocent village.(excerpt)
