The Trial

Four teenagers and a child were left home alone by their parents to celebrate New Year. They want to do something but they don’t succeed to agree. Each of them wants to do something else. Suddenly, they hear a noise in the yard and see someone there searching in the garbage.

The teenagers are curious and a bit frightened. Radu opens the door. In the middle of the yard there is a boy, maybe of 14 years old. He seems to be a beggar. His clothes are dirty and torn.

The boy is now in the living room. His hands and feet are tied. They don’t know what to do with him. Radu thinks the beggar must be punished. Lucia almost crying says to announce their parents or the police. They agree to judge him themselves. Only Cristi doesn’t seem to be happy about this. (excerpt)
