The Main Course
They say you can feel true love in your gut, but Ema and her family take this literally.
Sam meets his first love Ema at a summer camp. Little does he know that this encounter will have a profound effect on his life. Unlike him, Ema didn’t come to have fun. She came with a clear goal—to hunt down the main course for her eighteenth birthday party. Her whole life, Ema’s mom has always told her, “Don’t play with your food!” But Ema ignores her mother’s advice. She falls in love with Sam, but it’s too late. Sam and his family have already accepted the invitation to the Weber family’s remote cottage. Despite her initial enthusiasm, it is Sam’s mother Alice who first begins having doubts. Her curiosity gradually reveals secrets about the Weber family that only fully emerge at Ema’s birthday dinner. Although being a genre film, The Main Course takes an unconventional approach by combining it with coming of age, horror, and teen romance.
