Hans Jæger, a radical, gets stuck in his biggest controversy yet when his friend Fleischer shoots himself and all of Kristiania blames Jæger for his death. He decides to write a book that will expose that it is the falsehood and double-morality of the society that killed his friend, not him. In the process he needs to face all the people who blame him in order to get the details of Fleischers last days. With the book he intends to clear his name, but on the day of release his book gets confiscated and Jæger faces a trial that will not only be a trial based on the content of his book, but the content of his character.
